What are the prerequisites for this program?
High School Diploma or equivalency. Complete Skills Assessment and Submit Program Application.  Working knowledge of computers and access to computer and Internet are required. To succeed in the Pharmacy Technician Certificate program, students must possess a basic level of understanding of reading and math, including skills such as reading comprehension, fractions, and decimals, percentages. If you do not currently possess these skills, we recommend that you prepare yourself by taking our online Math Refresher course or by reviewing math and reading concepts. Our goal is for you to succeed in your educational experience.

What certification exam will I be eligible to take upon successful completion of this program?
Upon successful completion of the Pharmacy Technician Certificate program, you will be eligible to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam. Visit the testing organization’s website for the most current information about the certification exam and eligibility requirements.

Does the College of Continuing and Professional Education provide job placement?
The College does not provide job placement or career counseling for students. Due to the reputation of our healthcare programs, area employers periodically contact us with job opportunities. We notify recent program graduates via email with any job postings related to their field of study.

What financial aid options are available for this program?
The College of Continuing and Professional Education offers our students a number of financial aid options, including Continuing Education Loans, Employer Education Vouchers, Military Education Benefits (GI Bill, VA, and TA), MyCAA, and Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Please visit our site’s Financial Aid page to learn more about these options. Since the College of Continuing and Professional Education does not offer credit courses, we are unable to process traditional forms of financial aid such as Hope Grant/Scholarship, Pell Grant, and Stafford Loan, nor do we require you to complete the FAFSA.

What are the state requirements for this program?
There are a few state requirements for formal training or certification of Pharmacy Technicians. The state of Georgia does not currently require licensing.  However, many students choose to obtain a national certification or industry recognized credential in their field of interest. Not only does a national certification give you the ability to earn a credential, but it also demonstrates a commitment to your profession.

What can a graduate of this program expect to earn?
The College does not guarantee employment or salary expectations upon graduation from a program.  As of November 2011, Salary.com estimated the wage for an experienced pharmacy technician position in Georgia to begin at $26,570 (annual).

What additional books or supplies may be needed for this program?
All textbooks required for this program are available at the KSU Center Bookstore. The hours are Monday – Thursday, 4:00 – 8:00pm and Saturday, 8:30 – 11:30am. Please call the KSU Center Bookstore for textbook availability at 470-578-2342. No additional supplies are required for this program.
