Skills Assessment & Application Process
This program focuses solely on physician office coding and requires successful completion of the Medical Office Assistant Certificate Program OR submission of Assessment and Resume for evaluation.
Please complete the online skills assessment and application before registering for the program. The pre-assessment is located on the following website, where you will need to create an account and confirm before you begin:
- Once you are logged into the website, under “Course Categories”, click on “Skills Assessments”
- Click on the “Medical Billing & Coding Specialist Pre-Assessment Exam”
- Click on the “Enroll Me” button
- You will then be able to access the Assessment and get started
After completing the Skills Assessment and Application please email a copy of your Resume/Work History to Mari Lynne Bohn at email@example.com.
Your Pre-Assessment Score and Resume will be evaluated and you will be contacted regarding your acceptance into the program.
Upon receiving acceptance into the Medical Billing & Coding Specialist Certificate Program, you may proceed to register for the program. If you are not accepted into the program, please consider taking our Medical Office Assistant Certificate Program first.
What are the prerequisites for this program?
High School Diploma or equivalency. Successful completion of the Medical Office Assistant Certificate Program OR 1-2 years recent experience working in a medical/dental office, complete Skills Assessment and submit Program Application, and submit current resume. Working knowledge of computers and computer and Internet access are required. For those students who do not have prior experience with billing and coding, our Medical Office Assistant program must be completed prior to starting the Medical Billing & Coding Specialist program.
What certification exam will I be eligible to take upon successful completion of this program?
Upon successful completion of the Medical Billing & Coding Specialist Certificate program, you will be eligible to sit for the American Association of Professional Coders CPC exam and the National Healthcareer Association Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) exam. Visit the testing organization’s website for the most current information about the certification exam and eligibility requirements.
Does the College of Continuing and Professional Education provide job placement?
The College does not provide job placement or career counseling for students. Due to the reputation of our healthcare programs, area employers periodically contact us with job opportunities. We notify recent program graduates via email with any job postings related to their field of study.
What financial aid options are available for this program?
The College of Continuing and Professional Education offers our students a number of financial aid options, including Continuing Education Loans, Employer Education Vouchers, Military Education Benefits (GI Bill, VA, and TA), MyCAA, and Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Please visit our site’s Financial Aid page to learn more about these options. Since the College of Continuing and Professional Education does not offer credit courses, we are unable to process traditional forms of financial aid such as Hope Grant/Scholarship, Pell Grant, and Stafford Loan, nor do we require you to complete the FAFSA.
What are the state requirements for this program?
There are no state requirements for formal training or certification of Medical Billing and Coding Specialists. The state of Georgia does not currently require licensing. However, many students choose to obtain a national certification or industry recognized credential in their field of interest. Not only does a national certification give you the ability to earn a credential, but it also demonstrates a commitment to your profession.
What can a graduate of this program expect to earn?
The College does not guarantee employment or salary expectations upon graduation from a program. As of November 2011, Salary.com estimated the wage for an experienced billing specialist position in Georgia to begin at $25,433 (annual).
What additional books or supplies may be needed for this program?
All textbooks required for this program are available at the KSU Center Bookstore. The hours are Monday – Thursday, 4:00 – 8:00pm and Saturday, 8:30 – 11:30am. Please call the KSU Center Bookstore for textbook availability at 470-578-2342. No additional supplies are required for this program.
