This program will introduce the theory and concepts of successful landscape design for residential properties while teaching you the critical aspects of design necessary to prepare a basic residential landscape plan. A class field trip to a commercial nursery is included.

High school diploma or equivalent, completion of our Basic Skills Assessment and submission of the Program Application. Working knowledge of computers and access to a computer and the Internet are required.

    • Color and texture

    • Relationships to the sun (sun/shade)
    • Plant sizes at installation and later at maturity
  • The business side of design
  • Maintenance issues with residential landscapes (turf grasses, diseases and bug)

  • Irrigation and lighting
  • Hardscapes (walk ways, patios and ponds)
  • Construction methods
Acquire Critical Training Skills
  • Perform a needs analysis of the residential landscape opportunity.
  • Select appropriate plant material for design implementation.
  • Create a design that represents the goals of the homeowner, is aesthetically pleasing and includes the elements of good design principles.
