Korean Graduation

Seventeen Korean educators successfully completed the professional Training for International Educators (TIE) program Aug. 1. This marks the fourth group that has earned their certificates through a partnership with the International Teaching Training Institute, the designated institution for the Ministry of Education in Korea.

Barbara Calhoun, dean, congratulated the group of educators for their academic achievements.

“For 15 years, we’ve worked with various delegations across the world — including China, Africa and Eastern Europe,” she said. “You’ve come to the right place to get your training.”

Lyn Cohen, Languages program manager, has been leading this initiative since September 2013. The instructors for the Korean groups also teach in our ESL and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages programs.

“Our instructors work hard to provide learning techniques that make for better retention of the language,” Lyn said. “This is evident at the conclusion of our time with the Korean groups. They are more confident with the English language, and it shows.”

Southern hospitality is also part of the experience. In addition to their studies at the College, the educators are treated to tours of KSU’s campus and Atlanta tourist attractions such as the Georgia Aquarium and Turner Field.
