HR Graduate Says Program was Fate

HR Graduate Says Program was Fate

Latrece Jamison, a Human Resources Management SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP graduate, praises the CCPE program for her success. She began classes here in 2017, looking to expand her HR education. After being laid off from her job in a real estate services company, she decided to further pursue her education. She found out about WIOA, a federal grant that covers training expenses for individuals who have been laid off or whose household income is at or below the federal poverty level, through the annual summer CCPE Open House.

“I had to learn a bunch of new techniques,” Latrece said. “I’ve worked nonstop with just a high school degree. Being thrown into a job market where almost everyone has a degree – that put me back.”

Latrece enrolled in the Human Resources Management Certificate SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP course. The course focuses on teaching the functions of HR as well as prepares students to take the SHRM-CP certification exam.

“The time in the course was great. I love the fact that there was not only a lot of schedule options, but specifically the Saturday schedule,” Latrece said.

Soon after entering classes and still being on the job market, Latrece found a position in her desired area as a Talent Acquisition Coordinator at Change Healthcare in Alpharetta.

“I let everyone I met know I was in the program. It happened like clockwork as soon as I got in. About a month later, I got a lead,” Latrece said. “I support internal recruiters. We coordinate and manage the pre-hiring interview process.” She hopes to move further into her career in HR now that she has her foot in the door.

As for the SHRM exam, Latrece says she felt prepared but would definitely recommend studying.

“It is a lot of content, but with the materials provided, you will do fine,” she said. “This program comprehensively is one of the best programs I’ve had.”

Latrece recommends the HR course for anybody looking to make a career change and interested in the Human Resources field. She says it’s a great program for working professionals, especially those who have been working since high school but never got the chance to go back and get a formal degree.

“I think just overall it gives me a sense of accomplishment of committing to advancing my education. I set a goal after being laid off. The SHRM program set me up for success to go right into it,” she said. “I always say there’s no coincidences in life. I just feel like it was fate. The fact that I was so committed to this program, it took me to the right path, to the right people, to the right job.”
