Celebrating Our Instructors

Celebrating Our Instructors

Our instructors play a critical role in our college. They help enrich and improve the lives of every individual who has the opportunity to be in their classroom. They believe in continuing education and are committed to our mission of continuous of growth and improvement. That’s why, on Aug. 26, we hosted the 21st Annual Instructor Celebration.

This wonderful event celebrated our instructors and our partners in education for their contribution and commitment to lifelong learning.

“This is a night for us to individually and collectively thank our instructors for the great job they do teaching our students,” said Dean Barbara Calhoun. “Most of us have relationships with our instructors that make a difference in our lives and theirs.”

The festivities began with a social gathering where instructors, family and friends enjoyed an evening meal sponsored by local favorites. Among the participating restaurants were Bahama Breeze Island Grille, Chick-fil-A, Chuy’s, Copeland’s of New Orleans, Longhorn Steakhouse, Marlow’s Tavern, O’Charley’s Restaurant and Bar, Little Greek Fresh Grill, Starbucks Coffee and Uncle Maddio’s Pizza Joint.

“It’s a wonderful time to get together with other instructors that we don’t see during the fiscal year,” said Nancy DeLisle-Brown, longtime instructor of the English as a Second Language program. “It’s great to find out what everyone is doing and what they’re teaching.”

Dinner was followed by instructor recognitions and closing remarks by Barbara.

“It’s not just want you teach,” she said to the instructors in the room. “It’s the care that you show. We are so fortunate to have instructors who are dedicated to our students. We are inspired by each you.”

The night concluded with a special performance by Dad’s Garage Theatre Company. Back by popular demand, Dad’s Garage engaged the audience through their innovative improvised show. The one-hour show produced much laughter throughout the night.

“I have been teaching here for three years. I never realized there are so many instructors,” he added as he looked across the room.

At the end of night, all instructors received a special token of appreciation.
