Construction Project Management Certificate FAQs

How long will the course take to complete?
This certificate can be completed in six weeks. Successful students will progress through six two-day modules. Each module is two days, scheduled on a Friday and Saturday from 8:00AM – 5:00PM.

Is this one course, or a series of courses?
This is one course with one price, composed of six distinct, but related modules.

What are the six course modules?

The six modules are:

Module 1 – Building Techniques and Methods
This foundational module covers materials, techniques, and methods used in residential and light construction. Foundations, wood frame and masonry structural systems, interior and exterior finishes, residential electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems are included. Additionally, residential building code requirements will be discussed.

Module 2 – Construction Graphics
This module will focus on the fundamentals of graphic language used by construction professionals with an emphasis on developing skills in expressing concepts in visual form and in reading architectural and engineering construction documents.

Module 3 – Quantity Surveying
Students will study the techniques in the process of construction estimating and the development of the quantity survey. Students will complete a specification takeoff and a quantity survey of commercial construction.

Module 4 – Cost Estimating and Bid Preparation
Further explore the estimating process with an emphasis on pricing the general contractor’s work, including estimating procedures, development of direct and indirect unit costs, evaluation of subcontractor bids, bidding strategy and bid opening. Students will complete an estimate, bid submission, and develop a schedule of values.

Module 5 – Scheduling
A study of the management techniques used in controlling time and cost of construction projects, including development of schedules and budgets, organization and presentation of project information, and updating and monitoring progress using critical path methodology are all included in this module. Development of a construction schedule and budget is required. Commonly used commercial software packages are introduced.

Module 6 – Construction Project Management
This module covers traditional, design-build and construction management delivery methods, the management of field operations and administration of the construction contracts. Contract documents, project organization, supervision, working with owners and design professionals, procurement, management of subcontractors are also discussed.

The cost of the program is $7,194.00.

All classes are offered at the KSU Center near the Kennesaw campus.

Is there free parking available?
Parking is FREE at KSU Center no parking pass is required.
