Paralegal Student Shares Courthouse Tour Experience

Paralegal Student Shares Courthouse Tour Experience

When searching for a career change, Ingrid Daniel decided to pursue the legal field. She discovered our Paralegal Certificate program and, given its reputation, knew that it was the best choice.

“I felt the courses would give me an opportunity to fine-tune my skills in combination with on-the-job training and development,” she said.

Paralegal students got the chance to tour the Cobb County Courthouse on Sept. 29. The guided tour allowed students to see and experience the county court system behind the scenes. The only requirement to participate in the tour is to be enrolled in the program with no conflicting time constraints.

“Our students spend a lot of time with our attorneys learning about the law and the court system,” Jennifer Henderson, program manager for the Paralegal Certificate, said. “They hear from paralegals on what their role will be once they are in a law office, but they need the practical piece that would help them put it all together.”

Students began the tour at the Cobb County Probate Court where they learned the duties and matters assigned to the Probate Court under Georgia law. Other stops included the Juvenile Court, the district attorney’s office and the Superior Court Clerk’s office. They were able to speak with judges, interact with attorneys and other court personnel.

“One of the best parts of the tour was discussing what I saw in the live courtroom with fellow students and how it tied in to our classroom learning,” Ingrid said.

She felt the encouragement from speakers to the students was inspiring and took the limits off what they felt they could aspire to be and do with the certificate.

Her final thoughts: “A must for those in the field!”
