We are thrilled to offer a new course called Heritage Spanish for students who want to improve their native language skills to work in bilingual professions. Individuals who grew up in a Spanish-speaking environment may speak fluently but still lack formal training in correct grammar skills. This could inhibit them from qualifying for positions or from furthering their education. Heritage Spanish will provide the training they need to develop reading and writing skills in a culturally rich context.
Studies show that the more frequently you interact with a new language the quicker you learn. Our blended learning environment reinforces the classroom meetings with online practice and feedback to make the most of your dollar investment. Mirroring our other Spanish courses, Heritage Spanish will focus on listening comprehension, speaking, reading, writing and grammar while offering a customized curriculum for native speakers.
We also are moving to a new curriculum for traditional Spanish classes beginning this fall. Our former textbook-based course, VIVA! Spanish I-V, is being retired and limited courses are available for the remainder of 2016. It will be replaced with the hybrid curriculum of Portales, an award-winning program. Portales provides advantages such as a virtual Chat Partner, online audio and visual exercises and the same high standards as all their language programs.
Classes will meet for three hours on Saturdays over the course of 12 weeks and require two online exercises per week at your pace. A placement test for Spanish is required. New courses begin in September.
